Professional Classes

Feeling like you need some more advanced techniques or have a desire to create your own ideas? We offer professional skills classes in the following areas. Please call The Little Sewing Room for more information or to request we add it to our monthly schedule. Professional classes have the sewing curriculum as the prerequisite or equivalent experience.

Women’s Wear Pattern Making for Wovens I – Skirts
4 sessions, 3 hours each, 12 hours total - $165.00
This class is designed for those students with a desire to create custom-made patterns for themselves or others. It starts with creating a custom block for woven fabrics for skirts and finishes with 1 or 2 completed skirts. Projects are selected for lessons learned that can be utilized in other projects. Sewing experience is necessary for this class.  

Women’s Wear Pattern Making of Wovens II - Torso Block
4 sessions, 3 hours each, 12 hours total - $165.00
This class is a continuation of the first class and covers additional blocks. Pre-requisite: Wovens I. A basic custom blouse will be started

Women’s Wear Pattern Making of Wovens III: Sleeve Block and Collars
4 sessions, 3 hours each, 12 hours total - $165.00
The sleeve block to fit the torso and various collars will be covered. The basic blouse will be completed.

Women’s Wear Pattern Making of Wovens IV: Pant Block
4 sessions, 3 hours each, 12 hours total - $165.00
A custom pant block, leg circumferences, yokes, and pockets will be covered. A simple pant will be completed.

Women’s Wear Pattern Making: Basic Techniques
4 sessions, 3 hours each, 12 hours total - $165.00.
Now that you’ve learned how to make a block set, what do you do with it? Additional techniques such as dart rotations, princess seam, button extensions, and a variety of sleeves will be covered. We suggest the purchase of a pattern making book for reference for this class.

Women’s Wear Pattern Making of Wovens V: Jackets and Coats
4 sessions, 3 hours each, 12 hours total - $165.00
Using the torso block and sleeve, we will create a jacket and coat block with sleeve to match. 

Menswear Pattern Making I: Torso
4 sessions, 3 hours each, 12 hours total - $165.00
This class is designed for those students with a desire to create custom-made patterns for themselves or other men. We start with creating custom blocks for woven fabrics. The first block is the torso block, then move on to the shirt block and sleeve block for the torso.

Men’s Pattern Making II: Pant
4 sessions, 3 hours each, 12 hours total - $165.00
The pant block is created, design features for the pant and additional work on the shirt.

Men’s Pattern Making III: Jacket
4 sessions, 3 hours each, 12 hours total - $165.00.
The suit jacket is the topic of this class.

Men’s Pattern Making IV: Coats and Casual Jackets
4 sessions, 3 hours each, 12 hours total - $165.00.
Men’s overcoats and casual jackets and corresponding sleeves are covered.

Advanced Pattern Making for Men and Women’s Woven Garments,
6 sessions, 3 hours each, 18 hours total. - $230.00
Linings, advanced designs, and an introduction to manual grading will be covered.

Customizing Your Dressform for Draping
3 sessions 3 hours each, 9 hours total - $100.00
Create a custom fitted cover for your personal dress form to use in draping class.  

Beginning Draping
6 sessions 3 hours each, 18 hours total - $235.00
Cutting and pinning fabric to create 3 dimensional garments on the form.  

Intermediate Draping
6 sessions 3 hours each, 18 hours total - $235.00
More advanced draping projects.          

Knock-offs
2 sessions 3 hours each, 6 hours total - $75.00
Copy your favorite garment into a pattern and sew a fit sample in similar fabric.

Bridal or Red Carpet Gown
10-12 sessions - $36.00 per 3 hour session
The red carpet gowns have a secret – it’s in the inside! This gown is intended to be strapless-learn the techniques. Practice piecing lace invisibly, layers to create fullness, and your draping and patternmaking techniques!
  
Corset Making
6-7 sessions. - $36.00 per 3 hour session
Taught by a professional corsetiere, learn to draft and construct a body-reshaping corset. Fabrics, boning, and grommets are covered. Overbust or underbust corsets can be created.

Adult Open Sewing Labs

Adult Open Sewing - $8.00 hourly.
Once you have completed the first class, come in to practice, use the home or industrial overlocks and coverstitch machines, dressforms, cutting tables, irons, and other professional equipment. The lab time is set up to work independently-no instructor assistance is provided. Pre-requisite: current or previous enrollment in a TLSR class. 

Wednesday Night Creative Open Sewing Lab - $10.00 hourly
This lab is a more class-like experience to work on your own projects and get help. Or set this up on a membership – see below.

Membership Plans:
Plan A: includes 6 hours of monthly use of shop $ 48.00 monthly
Plan B: includes 9 hours of monthly use of shop $ 70.00 monthly
Plan C: includes 12 hours of monthly use of shop $ 90.00 monthly
Plan D: includes 15 hours of monthly use of shop $ 110.00 monthly 
Plan E: includes 18 hours of monthly use of shop $ 125.00 monthly

Membership Policies:
  1. Priority use of equipment is given to currently enrolled class members first.
  2. Shop availability is closed during kids classes.
  3. Schedule in advance the time you wish to come so that we can advise you od classes in session, space and equipment availability, and to ensure staff is available to open the shop.
  4. Instructors may not be available to answer questions or assist you if you need help; this is generally independent sewing.
  5. Unused hours may not be carried over to the next month.

Machine Rental

Have a special project or a collection to create and don’t have the equipment to create it? Rent ours! Student must demonstrate proficiency in operating industrial equipment.

Home overlock (serger) or coverstitch rental $ 5.00 hourly
Industrial single needle rental: $ 6.00 hourly
Industrial overlock or coverstitch rental $ 10.00 hourly
Industrial corner (all of our machines) $ 12.00 hourly
Students must provide own thread in cone form and needles. Bobbins, cases, and needles can be purchased from us.

Private Instruction

Sessions with our instructors may be scheduled at instructor’s availability with fee of $ 25.00 an hour for sewing instruction and $35.00 an hour for pattern drafting instruction.
